What Led Me to Yachting? The Top 6 Things I Love About Being a Yacht Stewardess on a 100ft Vessel
When I first dipped my toes into the world of yachting, it wasn’t with the intention of making it my career. But here I am, countless nautical miles later, a stewardess on a 100ft vessel, with stories to share and a deep love for the sea, the adventure, and yes—organizing tiny spaces! So, what’s the secret sauce that keeps me on board season after season? Well, let me tell you about the top six things I love most about this wild and wonderful career.
The Finest Cuisines on Earth
Yachting is a gateway to culinary heaven. Whether it’s Michelin-star gastronomy or a simple local dish sourced from a farmers’ market, the yacht industry attracts chefs from across the globe. They bring their culinary mastery right to the table—well, sometimes it’s me bringing it to the table, but that’s beside the point! Fresh, clean, and beautifully prepared food is such a huge part of the yachting experience. And, let’s not forget, yacht owners love trying out the newest restaurants in town, which means I’m always on the hunt for the next hotspot. Food is not just fuel on a yacht; it’s an experience, a ritual, and sometimes even an art form.
Wellness & Health
Yachting may seem like an effortless lifestyle of lounging under the sun, but believe me—it’s a physical sport. You have to stay fit to keep up with the demands of the job. Luckily, many yachts (including ours) come with state-of-the-art wellness amenities. Hot tubs, saunas—you name it! Of course, finding the time to use them can be a bit of a luxury, but when I do, it’s bliss. For me, my journey started as a massage therapist on a cruise ship, and wellness still plays a huge part in my life. When I’m not onboard, you’ll find me seeking out a new yoga class or stretching it out in a local park. Yachting and wellness? They go hand in hand.
Beach Barbecues, Sundowners, and Being One with Nature
Picture this: you’re delivering a pitcher of mojitos to guests via jet ski, or watching dolphins swim alongside you while you snorkel in the Bahamas. Nature throws its best moments at you while you’re at sea, and these perfect backdrops are one of the reasons I keep coming back. Whether it’s a sunset that feels like the most beautiful you’ve ever seen (until tomorrow’s even better one), or setting up a barefoot beach barbecue under the stars, yachting makes you feel connected to the world in ways I never thought possible.
Theme Nights and Special Occasions
This is where I really get to shine! Creating theme nights and organizing special occasions is like crafting magic. Whether we’re clamming it up for a New Year’s Eve celebration or setting up the ultimate Super Bowl viewing party, I love the creative process. Tablescapes, menus, decorations—it’s all part of the fun. There’s something so satisfying about pulling off a themed event that guests will be talking about for seasons to come.
Organizing and Decluttering
One of my secret joys? Organizing! When you live on a boat, space is at a premium, so you learn to live small and keep things tidy. There’s something therapeutic about creating order in compact spaces. I love decluttering, keeping everything shipshape (pun intended), and finding ways to make the most of every square inch. Sharing a space with crew and guests means the boat needs to stay pristine—and trust me, that’s a challenge I embrace wholeheartedly!
The Travel and Iconic Adventures
I never imagined I’d spend three seasons working in the Mediterranean, but here I am! Yachting gives you the chance to build itineraries filled with adventure and culture. Snorkeling the Blue Hole, lobstering in Maine, trekking through jungles in Costa Rica, truffle hunting in Tuscany, or getting a private tour of the Vatican—these are just a few highlights. Every destination brings something new, and every journey feels like the ultimate adventure. Who wouldn’t love a job where the world is literally your playground?
So there you have it—six things I adore about working as a yacht stewardess. The culinary delights, the wellness escapes, the jaw-dropping views, the creativity of theme nights, the satisfaction of tidiness, and the thrill of travel. It’s an industry that keeps you on your toes, but also gives you wings (or sails, as it were) to explore the world in the most exciting ways.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a sunset to catch and maybe even a mojito to deliver.
